Highlights:
I spent two lovely days at an Airbnb hosted by fellow long-distance cyclists Erin and Mehedi who rode their bicycles from Peru to Patagonia. Check out their visually stunning trip at their site: http://letsgocarino.com. Their Airbnb was the perfect place to wait out the weather and avoid slopping through the mud yet again. Leaving Abiquiu, I climbed 6,800 feet into the Carson National Forest up to Hopewell Lake Campground. The weather was perfect and the roads were dried out from yesterday’s mud. I would later find out that the Canadian and the European cyclists all bailed on to pavement after riding through yesterday’s mud.
I saw a beautiful white fox running fast fast. It was so surreal I almost didn’t believe that I was seeing.
Observations:
Consider this: I spent nearly 9 hours on the bike pedaling, and most of it was climbing into the mountains. Not bad for someone who was born in raised near a swamp.
